Peregrine Privacy Policy

Peregrine is operated by Numerical Polaris LLC (“Peregrine,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, retain, and protect personal information when you use the Peregrine mobile application, website, and related services.

1. Information We Collect
Account and profile information
When you create or update an account, we collect information you provide, which may include:
- Name and email address.
- Account identifier and authentication information.
- Profile photo, biography, and home city.
- Travel preferences, travel style, and connection preferences.
- Gender information you choose to provide.
- Interests, languages, and travel statistics.
We use Firebase Authentication to manage account registration and sign-in. When you choose Google Sign-In, we receive the account information Google provides through that sign-in process, such as your name, email address, and profile photo.
Content and community activity
We collect content and activity you submit through Peregrine, which may include:
- Posts, comments, photos, and other uploaded content.
- Messages and information needed to deliver them.
- Following relationships, likes, and other community interactions.
- Trips, expeditions, festivals, and related participation information.
- Support requests and reports you submit.
Safety check-ins and safety contacts
When you use safety check-ins, we collect your account identifier, scheduled check-in time, status, response timestamps, and any activity details or notes you provide. If you designate a safety contact, we may collect their name and phone number, your relationship to that contact, invitation information, and records of the contact's consent or withdrawal.
A safety contact may be a family member or trusted friend who does not use the Peregrine app. Providing another person's number does not enroll that person in automated texts. The recipient must personally opt in before automated safety alerts are sent. When an in-app contact-request feature is available, we also process the requester and recipient identifiers, request status, and acceptance or decline timestamps.
SMS preferences and phone verification
When you use our SMS preferences page, we collect the mobile number you provide, the message categories you select, verification and consent timestamps, the consent wording or version presented, and records of preference changes and opt-out requests. We may process SMS content, replies, provider message identifiers, delivery status, and error information to operate and troubleshoot the service.
Our SMS features may include safety check-in alerts, account or trip updates, customer care, and optional marketing messages, depending on the features available and the choices you make. Consent is specific to the message purpose. Safety, account, or customer-care consent does not authorize marketing.
We use Firebase Authentication for phone verification when offered. Phone numbers submitted for this verification are sent to and stored by Google for spam and abuse prevention across Google services, including Firebase. Web verification may use Google's reCAPTCHA and related technical signals. Requesting a verification code authorizes that verification message only, not enrollment in other SMS categories.
Phone verification creates or uses a Firebase authentication record and session associated with the number. It does not by itself create a public traveler profile, and recipients do not need to install Peregrine to receive safety texts.
Notification information
We may store a notification token associated with your account and device to deliver push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging. We also store notification records, such as the notification type, recipient, related activity, and delivery status.
Scheduled check-in reminders use your device’s local notification system.
Technical information
Our hosting, authentication, and other service providers may process technical information needed to operate and secure their services, such as IP addresses, device or browser information, request timestamps, and service logs.
Cities, destinations, and searches
We process home cities, destinations, and search information you enter or select to provide relevant travel information.
Peregrine does not collect your device’s GPS location.
2. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
- Create, authenticate, and manage accounts.
- Display traveler profiles and community content.
- Connect users and support messaging.
- Provide trip, expedition, festival, and destination features.
- Record safety check-ins, manage safety-contact invitations, and send authorized safety alerts when the SMS feature is active.
- Verify phone numbers, record SMS consent, honor opt-out requests, and deliver messages for the specific categories recipients authorize.
- Send marketing texts only with separate marketing consent.
- Deliver notifications and reminders.
- Respond to questions, reports, and support requests.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and secure our services.
- Investigate abuse and enforce our community rules.
- Meet applicable legal obligations.
Safety check-ins are app tools for recording responses and providing reminders. Selecting “I Need Help” does not itself contact emergency services or guarantee that another person has been alerted.
3. Information Other Users Can See
Your traveler profile may display your name, profile photo, home city, biography, travel preferences, interests, languages, travel statistics, and hosted trips.
Posts, photos, comments, and participation information may be visible to other users according to the feature where you share them.
Messages are shared with their intended recipients. Safety-contact invitations may share the traveler’s name and invitation details with the chosen contact. With the recipient’s consent, safety SMS alerts may include the traveler’s name, check-in status, scheduled time, and activity details or notes the traveler chooses to share. Consent and phone-verification records are not published on traveler profiles.
Avoid posting information you do not want others to see. Other users may retain copies of content you share, including screenshots, even after you remove the original content.
4. Service Providers and Other Sharing
We use service providers to operate Peregrine, including:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: authentication, database storage, uploaded files, server functions, and push notifications.
- Twilio and participating messaging providers: SMS delivery, replies, delivery-status processing, and opt-out handling when SMS features are active. These providers may process recipient numbers, message content, and messaging metadata.
- Stripe: payment processing for paid bookings when offered. Payment details entered through Stripe payment interfaces are processed by Stripe; Peregrine may retain booking amounts, payment identifiers, and status records.
- Google Sign-In: authentication when you choose this sign-in method.
- Google Maps and Places: map and destination-related features.
- OpenWeather: weather information for selected destinations.
- Apple and Google platform services: app distribution and platform functionality, including notification delivery.
Requests to destination, map, or weather providers may include the destination or search information needed to return results.
These providers process information under their applicable terms and privacy policies. We remain responsible for selecting and configuring services appropriately for Peregrine.
We may also disclose information when necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to valid legal requests, investigate abuse, or protect users’ rights and safety.
If Peregrine is involved in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of business assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and any required notice.
We do not sell your personal information.
SMS privacy: We do not sell or share mobile phone numbers, SMS opt-in data, or messaging consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. We may provide this information to providers that operate the text messaging service on our behalf, such as Twilio, solely to provide and support that service. Broader sharing provisions in this policy do not authorize sharing SMS opt-in data or consent for another party's marketing. Disclosures required by law remain subject to applicable legal requirements.
5. Permissions and Your Choices
You can:
- Update information you have provided through available profile controls.
- Remove content through available deletion controls.
- Manage notification permissions in your device settings.
- Decline safety-contact invitations and requests.
- Choose SMS categories separately, including a separate choice for marketing.
- Reply STOP to Peregrine program texts to unsubscribe from messages using that sending number, including safety alerts, or contact hello@viaperegrine.com to request removal.
- Reply HELP for SMS assistance or email hello@viaperegrine.com.
- Choose whether to use optional features.
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.
If you choose to upload a photo or use a feature requiring device access, Peregrine may request the relevant permission or use your device’s system picker. You can manage permissions in device settings.
Disabling notifications may prevent you from receiving reminders and app alerts. Device push-notification settings do not unsubscribe you from SMS messages. If you stop safety texts, let the traveler know so they can arrange another contact method. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply.

6. Data Retention
We retain account information while your account is active and as needed to provide Peregrine’s services.
We retain community content, messages, participation records, safety-check-in records, and contact-request records for the purposes described in this policy, subject to applicable deletion requests and legal requirements.
We retain technical and security records only as needed for operating the service, troubleshooting, preventing abuse, or meeting legal obligations.
Retention depends on the type of information, its purpose, account activity, deletion requests, and applicable legal requirements. We do not retain personal information indefinitely solely because it was collected.
We retain SMS preference and consent records as needed to provide authorized messaging and document consent. After withdrawal or a deletion request, we may retain limited opt-out and consent evidence to prevent unwanted messages, address disputes, and meet applicable legal obligations. Such retained records are restricted to those purposes. Messaging content and delivery logs are retained only as needed for delivery, support, security, troubleshooting, or applicable legal requirements.
7. Account and Data Deletion
You can initiate account deletion using the Delete Account option inside Peregrine.
You can also request account and associated data deletion without using the app by emailing:
Use the subject “Peregrine Account Deletion” and send the request from the email address associated with your account. We may request information needed to verify account ownership.
When an account is deleted, we delete or anonymize associated personal information, except information that must be retained for applicable legal obligations or justified security and abuse-prevention purposes. Any retained information is restricted to those purposes.
Deleting your account cannot remove copies independently retained by other users, such as screenshots or previously received communications.
You may contact us at the same email address to ask about deletion status or any retained information.
SMS recipients who do not have a traveler profile can also request deletion of their phone-verification record and associated SMS data at hello@viaperegrine.com. We may verify control of the number before responding. A limited suppression record may be retained to honor an opt-out. Deleting a traveler's account does not automatically delete a separate recipient's verification or messaging records; the recipient can make their own request.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information, including authentication, access controls, and encrypted connections supported by our service providers.
No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s Privacy
Peregrine is not intended for children under 13 or anyone below the minimum age required by applicable law.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Peregrine, contact hello@viaperegrine.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
10. International Processing and Privacy Rights
Peregrine and its service providers may process information in countries other than your country of residence. Privacy laws may differ between countries.
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
Where processing depends on consent, you may withdraw that consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our services or data practices change.
We will publish the updated policy on this page and revise its effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent before applying changes.
